Can This Beer Change the Organic Farming in the United States?
By practicing organic farming, farmers, their families, factory workers and YOU will not be exposed to chemicals that are harmful and the soil’s health will be maintained.
According to the Rodale Institute, organic agriculture is a production system that regenerates the health of soils, ecosystems, and people [and] organic farmers rely on natural processes, biodiversity, and cycles adapted to local conditions rather than the use of synthetic inputs like chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. GMOs are not allowed in organic products. Organic cotton farming uses natural processes rather than artificial inputs and does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms).
Here at Gallant, we are committed to making products made with Organic Cotton. Our cotton is certified organic and our products are GOTS certified. We know that when we choose to make products that are certified organic we are making a difference.
With the rise of the human population and the effects of climate change, it is important that we choose products that are Organic. According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), “… consumer demand for organic has grown by double-digits nearly every year since the 1990s. Most impressively, organic sales have increased from $3.6 billion in 1997 to $43.3 billion in 2015.” However, only 1% of US arable acreage is currently certified organic. We as consumers need to help the farmers transition their farmland into organic. In fact, it takes 3 years for conventional farmers to convert their land to certified organic.
During the transition to organic, farmers face many challenges including financial risks, less crop yield, insufficient training, and more. For these reasons, farmers need our support more than ever. Organizations like the Rodale Institute are invested in giving new farmer trainees and advocates the tools they need to succeed. You can join their workshops, webinars, long-term training internships, and other opportunities to learn with their expert staff. And, this is where the beer company comes into play.
During the Super Bowl 2020, Michelob Ultra ran its “6 for 6-Pack” commercial. The “6 for 6-Pack” commercial was later mentioned as one of the Best Super Bowl 2020 Commercials by Time Magazine. In the ad, the brand pledged to help transition 6 square feet of US farmland to organic for every 6-Pack ULTRA Pure Gold sold.
The ad ends with an encouraging statement… “If every football fan picks up a six-pack, we could change America’s organic farmland forever.” You can find out more on their website, please note that you have to be at least the age of 21 to visit their website. In addition to 6 for 6-Pack, the brand is also committing to Organic with its “Contract for Change” program. This program is offering contracts for barley growers only however according to their website they are partnering with CCOF to offer transitional grants to farmers across the range of crops nationally.
